There are a plethora of different themes in the Son of Neptune. First, there is friendship. Percy and his friends need to find a way to bond and stay together without leaving each other. There are some times when they get mad at each other but they manage to rise above it and stick together. Also, they use their friendship to free Thanatos. They used what they knew about each other to their advantage. Second, there is sacrifice. Throughout the entire book, all the demigods risked their lives to save Thanatos. They were told to stop the Titans from taking over the world, and they put their lives in danger to try prevent that from happening. Last, is teamwork. To free Thanatos, a bunch of teamwork was done. Everyone had to be in the right place at the right time to get this to possibly work. A form of teamwork they used was a destraction and the other person goes and gets Thanatos. At the Kindle Location 5304-16 Frank does this teamwork with another demigod. In conclusion, there are a myriad of different themes in the Son of Neptune.
Friendship
They couldn't have freed Thanatos with this theme. They used friendship to their advantage.

All the demigods put their life in danger and risked to die. Percy and his friends put their life at risk when they accepted the quest to free Thanatos.
